The Wellcome-Wolfson Institute for Experimental Medicine (WWIEM) is a state-of-the-art biomedical research centre based on the City Hospital site here in Belfast. WWIEM hosts 50 independent academic groups of scientists and clinicians interested in patient-focussed research in the areas of vision and vascular medicine, immunobiology and microbes and respiratory disease. Each of these research themes are underpinned by a serious of cutting-edge technologies such as high-end microscopy imaging, genomics, flow cytometry and pre-clinical models. IAESTE interns will spend 8 weeks as part of one of our WWIEM research themes carrying out benchside, laboratory research as part of the WWIEM Summer Research programme. Interns will take part in a number of social activities in Queen’s, and will present their results as part of an end-of-programme research symposium. This programme ideally suits students of science, pharmacy, medicine and other biomedical specialities who are interested in research, postgraduate studies and future employment opportunities.
