Work

During my internship, I learnt about the history and origin of jet engines. I got to know several versions of simple jet engines, and I learnt how to classify them according to its several types. I also became familiar with the basic working principle of a jet engine, which is the Brayton cycle, and derived the thermal efficiency expression. I got to know about the specifications of a gas turbine engine, and how they affect the functioning of an engine. I selected Rolls Royce Trent 900 as my project engine, and researched its specifications. Hence, I learnt about the different components of the jet engine, and how they contribute to the proper functioning of a jet engine. I designed the Rolls Royce Trent 900 engine on Fusion 360 using the help of YouTube tutorials and Grab CAD open sourcing website. This was the first time I designed such a complex model on CAD. I got to know about the usage of various Fusion 360 features like constraint, rotate and revolve. This whole month had a very positive impact on me. I got new time management skills, as I did this work simultaneoulsy with my daily college lectures and assignments. I did research for the first time, it was very new to me. Consequently, I learnt how to make a research report. 

Experience

As it was my first internship, the whole experience was very new to me and very positive too. I learnt a lot of new things in this one month, and found the research topic quite interesting. Also, the designing part was a good experience for me, although a little tedious and complex. Yet, I tried my best to overcome the obstacles, and during this process, I learnt a lot of new things.

Discover

Through this internship, I realised that I am capable of managing my time while working on several things. I learned to dedicate myself fully to the assigned work, and try my best to complete the work before deadline. Prior to this internship, I used to think that research is a boring process, however, after having it tried myself, I realised how fun it is to find out new things related to an interesting topic. I also realised that “googling” is a basic skill everyone should learn. Up until now, I studied subjects like Turbo Machines and Thermodynamics in my course,however this internship allowed me to practically implement the concepts I learnt during my lectures.
