Work

In summer 2016, I got the opportunity to work for two months as an IAESTE intern, at the faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas at the Department of Drilling and Geoengineering of the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow (Poland). During my internship, I received different kind of assignments in the field of Petroleum Drilling given by my Professor Dr. Dariusz Knez. It was a whole incredible experience at all, for I had the opportunity to work in my field and gaining professional experience while I met friends from all over the world.

Experience

During my internship time, I lived in a shared dormitory at the University where I worked for. I was sharing it with a Polish guy who is a basketball player for the University Team. Most of the other IAESTE interns used to live in different sharing dorms, but in the same building, so we handled out almost every day for having dinner together or for a Free Walking Tour. They became my family there. On weekends, I was traveling around Eastern Europe. Basically, visiting friends of mine that I met before to go to Poland for the internship. Then, I went to Germany, Czech Republic and Hungary. I also went to Austria for the IAESTE weekend trip. I made most of my trips by bus or train. However, there was an occasion in which I took an airplane to fly from the east to the west, specifically, to Portugal. I definitely fell in love with Krakow, their people, culture, food and landscape. I went to interesting places like Salt Mine or Wawel Royal Casttle. I could visit historical places such as Auschwitz and Schindler’s factory, and if you ask me about food. I could say that I became a big fan of the traditional dish called Pierogi.

Discover

This short period of time, was one of the best of my life. Actually, it was a great opportunity to challenge myself, to develop my leadership, and also improve my language skills. As I was working in a diverse and multicultural environment, I realized that the world needs more of this. I mean, people with different thoughts, perspectives and believes, but with a lot of mutual things and awareness in order to create an unique atmosphere and make the world a better and sustainable place to live.
