Work
During my internship at the National Engineering Office in Muscat, I had the opportunity to work on real architectural projects and learn from different engineering departments. I contributed to the design development of a VIP villa and the Sadeer Project, working on plans, elevations, 3D modeling, and architectural details. I also attended my first client meeting, where we presented the villa design and received direct feedback from the client. One of the most valuable parts of the internship was being exposed to areas beyond architectural design, including structural engineering, quantity surveying, fire safety, and finishing materials. Site visits also helped me understand how drawings and design decisions are translated into actual construction. This experience gave me a much clearer understanding of professional architectural practice and the coordination required between different disciplines. It strengthened my design and communication skills, increased my confidence, and helped me connect what I had learned at university with real-world practice.
Experience
During my internship, my daily life in Oman was full of new experiences, friendships, and unforgettable memories. I stayed in shared accommodation with other IAESTE interns, which allowed me to meet people from different countries, exchange cultures, and build meaningful friendships. In our free time, we explored many beautiful places across Oman. We visited Jabal Al Akhdar, the desert, Muttrah, several beaches, the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, and the Royal Opera House. We also went to Active Oman, where we enjoyed a variety of activities together. The food was delicious, and I especially enjoyed experiencing Omani cuisine. What made my experience even more special was the Omani people. They were incredibly kind, welcoming, generous, and always willing to help. Their hospitality made me feel comfortable and at home throughout my stay. Overall, my daily life in Oman was enjoyable and memorable. It was not only an internship experience but also an opportunity to discover a beautiful country, experience a new culture, and build friendships and memories I will always cherish.
Discover
During my internship, I learned that I am more adaptable and independent than I expected. Working in a new country and professional environment pushed me outside my comfort zone and helped me become more confident in communicating, sharing my ideas, and learning from others. The experience also changed the way I see architecture. I was able to see how what I learned at university is applied to real projects, while also discovering how architectural practice can differ between countries in terms of building regulations, design approaches, and client needs. Working with different departments also showed me how important coordination and teamwork are in bringing a project to life. Most importantly, the internship confirmed my interest in architectural design and inspired me to continue developing my skills and gaining international experience in the future.
