Work

During my IAESTE internship, I had the opportunity to work on the synthesis and characterization of new coordination complexes for DNA photooxidation studies. In this internship, I gained hands-on experience by learning how to synthesize compounds, and I also got to improve my computational chemistry skills. Having the opportunity to conduct research in a new country definitely pushed me out of my comfort zone, which taught me to become comfortable in an unfamiliar environment. This experience has definitely strengthened my interest and passion for research.

Experience

During my IAESTE internship, I got to live in the UCT Prague university dorms. It was my first time living away from my family, and although it was a new experience, I quickly grew to really enjoy my independence. I got to meet incredible people and make new friends. Since the dorms were close to the city center, it was easy for us to go out, explore Prague, try different foods, and spend time together after work. I also had the opportunity to visit nearby cities such as Český Krumlov and Karlovy Vary. Prague is an incredible place to live, it has such beautiful architecture and rich history. I am very grateful for all the friendships and memories I was able to build. It's an experience I will remember for the rest of my life.

Before my internship, I never imagined that I would have the opportunity to live and work abroad. Going to Prague showed me that opportunities can become possible when we are willing to take a chance on ourselves. Living and working in a new country also broadened my worldview. Meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds helped me understand different ways of thinking and living. I also learned that stepping outside of one's comfort zone can be one of the best ways to grow as a person. Most importantly, this internship showed me the value of international experiences. I learned that some of the most meaningful growth can happen when you put yourself out there and allow yourself to learn from people around you. My experience in Prague inspired me not only to continue seeking international opportunities for myself, but also to help create those opportunities for other students through IAESTE YorkU.
