Work

During my internship at Sultan Qaboos University, I worked as a Research Assistant on the documentation and analysis of traditional Omani heritage sites as part of a Digital Heritage Documentation Project funded by His Majesty Trust Fund. I participated in several field surveys, documenting the architectural, structural and environmental characteristics of heritage buildings and settlements. I also assisted in organizing field data, and contributed to the development of structured documentation forms and databases.

Experience

I came to Oman expecting a professional experience, but I left with new friendships, new perspectives and a much clearer idea of the kind of architect I want to become. During my free time, I had the chance to explore different parts of Oman with other IAESTE students. We visited Nizwa and its historic fort and souq, explored museums and took a trip to Jebel Akhdar. We also enjoyed exploring Muscat, going to the beach, trying traditional Omani food and spending time together with students from different countries.

Discover

Working with Omani heritage gave me a much deeper appreciation of the relationship between architecture, culture and identity. I discovered that travelling and working in an international environment can completely change the way you see both the world and yourself. Meeting people from different countries, learning about Omani culture and experiencing everyday life in Oman taught me to be more curious, patient and open to perspectives different from my own.
