Work

I worked the field of speech technology. My work involved studio recordings, audio signal processing and machine learning. The end goal be to train and evaluate a speech synthesis system. Before starting the internship, I learned about the Python programming language. During the internship, I gained experience in sound and signal processing. I'm in my last year of university and I will probably design a project for my graduation project this year by taking advantage of the knowledge I gained during my internship. In addition, I had the opportunity to improve my English.

Experience

I started my internship in Skopje 15th August. I stayed in a house close to where I worked for a month. During this period, I shared the house with a Polish friend for 1 week and with a friend from Bosnia and Herzegovina for 3 weeks. I learned invaluable information about their culture and gained great friendships with them. We attended the meetings organized by IAESTE every Monday, besides that, we spent time with the interns and IAESTE volunteer students at least 3 days a week in the evenings, and we went on different city trips on the weekends. During my internship, I went to many places both with IAESTE and alone. I can really say that I spent the 4 weeks I spent quite productively in this regard. First of all, I went to Thessaloniki, a place I always planned to go before I came to my internship, on a tour that my supervisor found. It was a wonderful experience for me because I had the opportunity to visit the house of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of our Turkish republic. When I came back from Thessaloniki, an irrepressible love of travel arose in me. A few days after I arrived, I went to Belgrade and made great friends and had a great time there. Later, I participated in a trip to Ohrid city of Macedonia with the IAESTE team and had the opportunity to swim in Ohrid lake there. The love of exploring new places in me was never ending. When I finished my work and laid my head on the pillow, I could not sleep most of the time because of dreaming of traveling. Then I found a gap 4 days and fill this gap by going to 3 new countries. It was really spontaneous and almost all of my friends said that this trip was a very dreamy plan. First, I arrived in Zagreb, the capital of Croatia, after a 12-hour journey by bus. Since I arrived here very early in the morning, I had the opportunity to explore the city all day long. In the evening, I went to Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia, and slept in a hostel there. Then, I toured Ljubljana during the day and then in the evening I got on the bus that would take me to Milan, Italy in the morning of the next day. There, after exploring the city all day long, I boarded a flight from Milan airport to Nis, Serbia, in the evening. I took the bus from this city, which is very close to the city where I did my internship at night, and arrived in Skopje in the early morning hours and got to work.

Discover

I realized that discovering new places, learning new cultures, meeting new people is the thing that gives me the most pleasure. I want to tell you a story about this. I am a basketball and Luka Doncic (a Slovenian basketball player) fan. While I was in Slovenia, I wanted to get some memories about this player. I've searched a lot of places but couldn't find anything. The last time I saw a shop in the center of Ljubljana in the evening. Besides being a gift shop, this shop also had a lot of basketball items. But the prices were not according to my budget. We started chatting with the shop owner. (I was wearing a Luka Doncic T-shirt meanwhile) We were talking to him about the Euroleague and the NBA. The conversation was very enjoyable, but it was time for me to leave. Just as I was leaving, the shop owner handed me cards signed by the Slovenian national basketball team and Luka Doncic. It was a very meaningful gift to me and I still keep these cards on my clipboard in my room and every time I look at it it reminds me of these beautiful moments. During my internship, I went to 6 countries and I really felt at home in all of them.
