Work
I got to experience life on one of the largest petrochemical facilities in the world which was great to see all the theoretical ideas learned in University put into practice. I was based in the Global Operations Centre of Wanhua and worked on an emissions reduction project which is particularly relevant now with the current climate change challenge.
Experience
The accommodation was provided by Wanhua who also assigned a mentor to me which was invaluable particularly at the beginning when everything is new from the food to the language. There were also many other interns in the same building as me so I made many friends from all over the world. IAESTE China were very helpful as they provided cultural training (Lepa programme) and also organised many funs trips around China.
Discover
I believe I left China with a much better sense of who I was and what I wanted for the future. This I got from dealing with the challenges of living and working in a completely different country and culture. I now know I am passionate about travelling and discovering other countries, cultures and meeting people from around the world.
