Work
I was the member of a group dealing with nanoparticles, their synthesis, characterization and their use in food science and medicine. We were also using the method called sono-coating to coat various surfaces with nanoparticles. In my home university, I am working with nanomaterials and this internship helped me to extend my knowledge about the use of nanomaterials (nanoparticles) for food science or medicine.
Experience
I stayed in a dorm with a double room. My first roommate was from China, the second one from Turkey. I attended several IAESTE events. Each Tuesday, we played football with my colleagues. I also played tennis and beach volleyball. I stayed in the capital, with a population around 2M and with a huge history, so maybe one year will be not enough to see everything. I visited museums, attended free city tours. You can discover parks, pubs, clubs - you will find there everything you need. If you like bigger cities which do not sleep, just go to Warsaw. Food is cheap and very delicious, I can recommend Bar Mleczny - higher quality food for a fair price.
Discover
Suddenly, you are alone in a big city in a foreign country. New place, new people, a new company, new language or habits. All you need to do is to jump or to say - I can do it, I will manage it. I think this is the most valuable experience, just to be able to manage everything. And this experience will help you in your next life, you will gain more self-confidence, improve your language skills, find new friends, expand the professional network, etc. There need to be a will to see and experience something new.
