Work
During my time in ILK I got hands-on experience with composites. I had a great supervisor who gave me the opportunity to do a lot. I got to do tasks using equipment and materials I wouldn't otherwise experience including ultrasound analysis, materials testing, using industrial presses and using materials not commonly used except for very high-end engineering. The knowledge I gained is helping with my final year modules and my dissertation.
Experience
It was a very healthy work-life balance. Most days other interns, local committee members and I would meet up after work. Most interns live in the same building which makes it easy to meet up. Whether it is for a couple of beers and pizza by the river or playing basketball with locals everybody really made the effort to do stuff. Every other weekend the committee would organise something like hiking, canoeing, road trips etc. We had cooking night every Tuesday where somebody from a different country would cook.

I really enjoyed my internship and think that it is an area I would like to have a career in. I met a lot of different people from lots of different countries. I learnt a lot about different cultures and my friend's views on things I had seen on the news about their country. I want to travel to their countries now to experience them.
