About your host country Arrow dropdown

During working hours, interns are insured through social insurance, which the respective employer will organize. For all activities outside work an additional travel insurance is required.Please be aware that during wintertime especially in the western parts of Austria it can get quite cold, so please bring warm clothes.Depending on the city in Austria interns are doing your internship, the accommodation will be arrange for them or with the help of the responsible local committee. All details will be provided from the responsible person from the local committee before departure and in due time, especially in terms if they need a visa for Austria.Interns should bring with them an adapter type C for electricity.

Arrival & pick up Arrow dropdown

Details of what interns should do on arrival will be provided, including a contact person who will meet them at their arrival location to pick them up.On the first days interns will be accompanied to the city hall to register and to a bank to open up a bank account. On their first day of the internship the responsible person will accompany them to their workplace.

During Internship Arrow dropdown

The supervisor at work will guide interns during the whole internship. The working hours will be set by the employer. Interns will be added to our trainee social groups and will be able to communicate with all members and trainees that are currently in the city. We will organise events during the week and/or weekend and inform them about all summer reception events. If interns have any questions, they shouldn't hestiate to ask the local IAESTE executives.

To apply for an IAESTE Internship, one either has to be enrolled as a degree student (BSc, MSc, PhD,...) at an Austrian university or university of applied sciences (german: Fachhochschule) or graduated less than 1.5 years before the time of application (counting from the validation date of the degree certificate).Applicants can be nominated for a maximum of two internship at a time (if the intended periods of the internships do not overlap).Furthermore all requirements indicated by the hosting country and employer (eg: student status throughout the internship) must be met.

Students must register on the Exchange Platform (EP) and complete their profiles as per instructions available on the platform (the compulsory documents in English are: CV, transcript of records (of the current and possible past or side studies), confirmation of enrollment, English certificate (IAESTE, TOEFL, Cambridge ESOL, CEF, IELTS, ALTE, DELE, etc.) and certificates of any completed studies).Applications will ONLY be accepted if the related profile has been verified before.For Ongoing Exchange System (FCFS based application system from June to December):The student can check all available internships on the EP. If they fulfill the requirements for an internship and the deadline for nomination is more than 7 days ahead, they can apply on http://offers.iaeste.at/ For our application round based system (February to June):The students see all available offers on http://offers.iaeste.at/ and can apply on the website during the application round. In most application rounds it is possible to apply for multiple offers and a priority needs to be assigned to each application.

For Ongoing Exchange System (FCFS based application system from June to December):The application are checked by IAESTE members in order of submission. The successful applicant is notified via mail.For our application round based system (February to June):After the application round has closed, the “Ranking” takes place.All applications for an internship are sorted by priorities, CYOS (applications with matching CYOS are preferred, applications with insuffcient CYOS are rejected) and then by ranking points (study credits + bonus points (awarded for helping IAESTE) – malus points (in case of previous internships)).The applications are evaluated in mentioned order by a ranking team (minimum 2 IAESTE members from different LCs) and auditing team (minimum 1 person).The successful applicant is immediately called and asked to agree bindingly or decline. If they decline, the next person on the list is ranked.

First, the nominee needs to provide three documents before preparing the nomination documents: -proof of payment of a deposit of 300€ (a screenshot of the bank transfer)-the trainee agreement with IAESTE Austria-the deposit formAfter handing in these document the student is assigned to the offer on the EP and can start filling in required data and uploading the nomination documents:- Student Nomination Form - Cover Letter - CV - Transcript of records and certificates of completed studies if applicable- Language Certificate - Certificate of Enrolment - Letter of Recommendation (not mandatory) - Scanned copy of Passport - Photograph - Portfolio (if needed for the nomination)- Additional Documents (if needed for the nomination)Once the nominated student completed uploading the documents, they are reviewed and in case they are incomplete or other issues arise the nominated student is requested to correct them.

Acceptance & Departure Arrow dropdown

Once the nomination is completed and uploaded to the EP, it will be shared with the receiving country and the employer. The receiving IAESTE committee or the employer might want to conduct an interview with the student. Unless students were contacted by the receiving committee or employer directly, they are not allowed to contact them. If they do, they might be excluded from the IAESTE internship programme.Once the nomination has been shared with the receiving committee, the student should receive the final decision in max. 8 weeks. If not, they are allowed to cancel their nomination and apply for another internship.Once accepted, the students should follow the instructions of the receiving committee. They should confirm their wish to undertake the internship within 2 weeks. If a visa or work permit is required, they should start the process as soon as possible. All students are required to purchase health insurance which covers their free time during the duration of their internship. Students are asked to submit their arrival details on time so that the receiving country can make all necessary arrangements to welcome them.If the nomination is rejected, students can apply for another internship or request a refund of the deposit.

During & After Internship Arrow dropdown

IAESTE supports the intern during the internship by helping with the reception and also organising the social events. In case of any problems they can always reach us for some tips or in case of emergency. After the internship they'll be asked to complete a feedback form to help us to evaluate their internship as we are always trying to improve our performance and reach the highest standards. The report should be submitted within 4 months after the end of the internship. Afterwards, they will be issued with a certificate that confirms their participation in the programme and will get their deposit reimbursed.

A document including all requirements and the most important details concerning the internship is set up. This document contains information for the employer about the requirments to provide an internship - such as payment and duration, job description, required study fields, extra skills - and information about the accommodation. This document is provided in an e-mail that all employers receive after the first contact.

Offering an internship to a foreign student Arrow dropdown

After the initial contact companies are assigned a responsible contact person from IAESTE Austria.Companies have to provide a filled form including all necessary data for the internship they intend to provide. Alternatively they can provide these data via our own CMR tool. Access to this tool will be granted after the initial contact.

Selection & Approval Arrow dropdown

After the end of the nomination deadline all students' profiles and documents will be checked by a responsible person who is familiar with the subjects and working requirements and the best applicant will be selected.Next an informational talk will be held by IAESTE Austria with the nominated person. The application documents of the successful candidate are forwarded to the company. The company’s responsible person can schedule an additional talk with the forwarded candidate before taking a decision. For all further questions regarding the students' nomination companies can always contact us (eg to request further documents,...).

Pre Arrival Logistics Arrow dropdown

After a student is accepted, they are contacted by the responsible person of IAESTE Austria to begin arrival preparations and a few days before the arrival they receive important informations eg. about the country, the common way to reach the country, if the location of work is far from big cities, how to get there etc. from the receiving committee. The employer, will support the arrival preparations with some special documentation to be presented for visa/work permit application (FB - Firmenbestätigung) if required. It is expected from the employer to introduce the intern to the work and to the team the intern will work with.

During & After Internship Arrow dropdown

It is expected that companies are in contact with the student to assign a supervisor to guide them during the process. Employers are responsible for providing the intern with basic material for work: desk, computer etc. and if this is not possible, to mention it in advance so the student can be prepared. It is highly appreciated to have regular communication between our office and the employer. After the internship companies will be asked to complete a feedback form to share their experience with us.
