Work
My role was to support the beams department by preparing CATIA 3D models of underground work to instruct engineers and technicians through visual images. I also did an FEA structural analysis with ANSYS on a critical part of the tunnels to study its deflection due to heavy loads. Furthermore, I did an extra task for another department including thermal analysis of a particle detector to study the temperature distribution.
Experience
It was the best summer of my life! I stayed in the CERN hostel full of other summer students, the best part was making new friends from other backgrounds. We would meet every evening in the kitchen or the restaurant to hang out and travel to other cities on the weekends like Zurich, Grindelwald, and Paris. Switzerland is really beautiful, with many great memories... hiking in the Alps, swimming in the rivers, going to festivals. I had the best time, surely it's a one-of-a-kind experience. I hope to visit again one day.

CERN is a unique place! The overall experience impacted my growth academically and on a personal level. For start, I always thought that doing a 9-5 job every day would be difficult but the experience taught me to adapt. Also, it helped my interaction with people and become an extrovert by throwing me outside of my comfort zone, being in a different country away from your family and friends is a bit hard but it forces you to make new friends and they become your family too!
