Work
I worked in the high Energy Astrophysics lab on X-rays and X-rays Telescopes like the "XMM-Newton" Telescope. I studied one of the data from this telescope called IGR J18027-2016. It is an obscured high mass X-ray binary formed by a neutron star accreting from the wind of a supergiant companion. I did a lot of deductions and calibrations processes on this data to produce an EVENT file by Using Linux Terminal to get an image and from this image to produce a light curve to these stars.
Experience
I lived in the male’s dormitory inside the campus. It was kind of isolated but it was good, clean and warm. We were doing sports like playing basketball, billiards, chess, and gym together with the other IAESTE interns. During the weekends, we always arranged a new trip! We were in the UAE - there are millions of places to see and visit. We visited Burj-Khalifa, Burj-Alarab, Dubai Mall, Abu Dhabi, The Grand Mosque, The Louvre Abu Dhabi, Dubai Cruise, Dubai Desert Safari, Sharjah Desert Camping, Khor- Fakkan, and some parties. I have made friends from all over the globe, and I knew more about different cultures and different habits. The food was the same as in my country, as I am Arab too, but I tried a lot of food: some was awesome, and some was a pain in the stomach! I also cooked for the first time in my life and some food was delicious actually. I invented my own recipes and I am very proud of it
Discover
This is what I can call the reality behind the internship, I have rediscovered myself, I tried things I never tried, I learned languages I never used, and I also laughed at jokes I was never able to understand. For me, it's the best thing you can have in your life: to have an iaeste internship and to meet iaeste interns like my group. I am very proud of you all my friends.
