Work
After reading about the historic city of Jaipur and the local architecture, my work focused on a stepwell. This stepwell is located just outside of the city and was used as a water well. However, it has lost its function as such and is now an empty space. The site was measured and digitalised, therefore a floor plan and section was drawn of this cultural site. The project took a closer look at activating the space for future generations. It was very interesting to get an insight into the formation of public space as well as the historic fabric of the area. Two students from university assisted me during the fieldwork and I was able to conduct several interviews with local residents.
Experience
IAESTE India was highly motivated and helped us with every step. It was amazing to experience the Indian culture, meet local students and enjoy the Indian cuisine. Throughout my weeks in Jaipur, I was able to visit many different surrounding cities during the weekend. Everything was possible - desert, mountains, beaches, culture... each weekend became an adventure in itself.
Discover
No matter where you are in the world, you will find friends and comfort. Students amongst themselves are so similar and can interact effortlessly. I learnt how important it is to travel and interact with local people. It can reshape your mindset and give you new perspectives. Everything you expected of a country can turn out to be false. I was especially shocked to realised how privileged I am with my education and possibilities in Vienna.
