High Level Plenary in commemoration of the founding of ILO
On April 10-11 the United Nations celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the International Labour Organisation (ILO). It was created in 1919 just after the first World War together with the League of Nations, that proceeds the United Nations. IAESTE joined the meeting through our representative for ECOSOC, Dr. Pulat Pulatov, National Secretary of Tajikistan, who has a strong relationship with the UN in New York.
The commemoration took the form of a high level Plenary meeting in the UN in New York : “The future of Work”. The objective of the meeting was : “to share best practices, concrete solutions and ambitious recommendations for shaping the future of work with decent work for all.”. The ILO want to address two topics basically:
- Addressing Unfinished Commitments to Achieve Decent Work for All
- Shaping the Future of Work
The outcome of the meeting should be to prepare a summary of the high-level plenary meeting which will be transmitted to the high-level political forum on sustainable development, convened under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council, to be held in July 2019, as well as an input to the high-level political forum on sustainable development, convened under the auspices of the General Assembly to be held in September 2019. The summary will also be transmitted as an input to the deliberations of the 108th International Labour Conference in June 2019.
During the meeting he had the opportunity to meet and talk to various official delegates and Permanent Representatives to the UN.
