Virtual internships? Embracing the future, respecting the past

The pace at which the world changes, especially in relation to technology can sometimes be quite scary! Organisations such as IAESTE face a constant battle to keep up with these changes, not just with the technology itself, but with how it changes the needs of today's STEAM students.

While we remain confident that the best way to gain experience is in an international environment, face to face with people and cultures different to your own, it's clear we also have to adapt to include other new opportunities that meet particular needs of students. One way we have done this is to partner with GenM who offer a kind of virtual internship where you're matched with an employer and project and get to learn and gain new skills, but it a virtual setting. We see this as a nice add-on to the IAESTE experience, for those that want more possibilities, or for those times when students cannot travel for one reason or another.
